Travelling to Bhutan in October and November is a truly unique experience. In October, the country is adorned with the beautiful colours of autumn, creating stunning landscapes that seem straight out of a fairy tale. It is also apple harvest season, so the valleys are filled with golden rice fields and ripe fruit, adding even more beauty to the surroundings.
But it is in November that the magic reaches its peak. During this month, we have the extraordinary opportunity to witness the festival dedicated to the black-necked crane. This festival is a unique celebration where locals rejoice and honour the arrival of these majestic birds, considered sacred. It is more than just a festivity; it is an occasion to raise awareness about the conservation of these birds, as well as provide economic incentives for local communities that depend on them. In addition, the festival creates a space for locals to renew their commitment to protect and preserve the cranes, which are an integral part of Bhutan’s ecosystem.
Therefore, travelling to Bhutan in October and November not only allows us to enjoy its stunning autumn landscapes, but also to immerse ourselves in its rich culture and participate in meaningful events that connect us with nature and the local community. It is a very special experience not to be missed!
